Description

A job has become available for a 3-4 vet mixed practice in Darwin's rural community. Work involves 70% Small Animal and 30% Large Animal (predominately equine). The clinic is set on 5 acres with equine stables and yards with paddocks. We are 20 minutes from the centre of Darwin.
The small animal clinic is a state of the art, purpose-build clinic, with digital radiography (mobile and in clinic), 2 ultrasound machine (mobile and in-clinic with with 1-15Mhz probes including cardiac), video endoscopes, arthroscopes and laparoscopes (Karl Storz and Arthrex), full Idexx lab machines, arthroscopic towers (Arthrex) and Synthes locking plating equipment and power tools. It is not unusual for us to be doing a routine veterinary practice procedure such as speys and castrates mixed in with a complex orthopaedic procedure or a laparoscopy. You will not be stuck doing endless vaccinations all day.
The large animal work involves mainly equine, servicing the racing industry, local equine pleasure and top end stations. We get referrals from across the top end and have a visiting equine surgical specialist for more complex procedures. We have a mobile equine crush, power float dental equipment, gastroscope, tele pak, and equine laparoscopic equipment (Karl Storz), equine gaseous anaesthetic machine and mobile ultrasound and digital radiography.
The case load is interesting and varied. Clients are willing to pay for work ups making the work more rewarding than trying to cut corners. The clinic has recently bought a Cessna T210M plane to travel to remote areas /stations in the NT and WA due to increased demand. We will be exploring this further in the near future.
We have plans to build an equine surgical facility with a Toshiba 16 slice CT for both Small and Large animals. This has been approved and will be going to tender in the near future to start building.
We are after either an experienced vet, or a new grad with the right attitude and willingness to learn. A Vet who is enthusiastic, wants to contribute to all facets of the clinic with ample back up, enjoys the tropical lifestyle of the top end and the adventures it provides. You will be well remunerated with ample time off for exploring the many parks and rivers. After Hours is shared evenly on weekends with the boss doing most of the week work. Pay is well above award and usual holiday and study leave. We actively encourage continuing education.
